Keith Forbes – Apprentice Of The Year Nominee

Keith began his apprenticeship in Electricals with a company in Co. Cork back in 2019 where he spent just over a year wiring electrical control panels. Keith enjoyed the time he spent serving as an electrician but always longed to do Instrumentation. When the opportunity as an Electrical Instrumentation apprentice arose with OBW Technologies back in 2020 Keith was enthusiastic to make the transition and broaden his apprenticeship skills and learning opportunities.

Working as an Electrical Instrumentation Apprentice, Keith is involved in the installation, programming, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of various wiring systems and services for OBW Technologies.

Hailing from Dunmanway, Co. Cork, Keith has just finished Phase 1 of on-the-job employment and now looks forward to phase 2 of his apprenticeship which consists of 28 weeks off-the-job training in the LCETB Training centre here in Limerick.

Representing OBW Technologies at the Apprenticeship of The Year Awards ceremony, Keith is one of 198 nominees to attend the event in Dublin’s Mansion House on October 25th.

After attending the Apprentice of The Year showcase at WorldSkills Ireland in September, Keith spoke of his great achievement “To be nominated for this award is a huge achievement. The guidance and education I have received from everyone at OBW has been second to none, what they have given me is and will be invaluable through the course of my apprenticeship. I look forward to passing my knowledge on to the next generation of apprentices that make the decision to start with OBW.”

We spoke with Ronnie Hartnett Senior Service Engineer about Keith’s time so far in OBW “Keith is always someone that you can depend on no matter what the situation, if he is unsure of a particular task he will always ask the intelligent questions until he gets a greater understanding of the situation. Alongside his quick ability to learn Keith works exceptionally well as part of the OBW team.” Ronnie describes Keith as a great role model to other apprentices.

Apprenticeships are growing fast as earn as you learn skills and career options for people of all ages and backgrounds with Keith being just one of 24,000 apprentices countrywide. Here at OBW Technologies, we are always on the lookout for new talent to join our ever-expanding team. If you or anyone you know is interested in furthering their career or is interested in an apprenticeship, check out our Jobs page.
