Project Highlight – DePuy Synthes

DePuy Synthes, an orthopaedic company with over 1700 employees across two sites in Cork, Ireland, needed a reliable and accurate system to monitor and protect their lone workers in case of any emergency. They contacted OBW OBW Technologies, a leading provider of gas detection and life safety systems, to find the best solution for their needs. 

The Customer

DePuy Synthes is a global leader in orthopaedic and neurological solutions, providing products and services for joint reconstruction, trauma, spine, sports
medicine, and more. Operating in over 60 countries, the company employs 18,000+ people worldwide.

The Solution

OBW Technologies proposed the implementation of 20 Blackline G7c devices, which are wearable gas detectors and personal safety monitors that can communicate with a cloud-based portal and provide real-time location and status of the workers. The devices also have a two-way voice communication feature, which allows the Emergency Response Team (ERT) to speak to workers directly and assess their condition and location. OBW Technologies also installed approximately 145 beacons across both DePuy buildings, which enhance the precision of the location tracking and enable indoor and outdoor positioning.

Results

The result was a complete and robust system that improved the safety and wellbeing of the lone workers, as well as the efficiency and effectiveness of the ERT. DePuy Synthes can now monitor and manage their workers’ safety through the Blackline Live Portal, which provides real-time data and alerts on any H&S events. The portal also allows them to generate reports and analytics on the performance and usage of the system.
